Starry, Starry Night
Event Profile of a Los Angeles Premiere
In Los Angeles, when the stars come out, they really come out. This is true on any given night, but especially true this month when the Los Angeles Philharmonic celebrated its 10th anniversary with a star-studded event at their home, the Walt Disney Concert Hall.
The theme of the event, Starry Night, also paid tribute to the milestone 10th anniversary of the Walt Disney Concert Hall and its world-famous architect, Frank Gehry. The hall and Gehry provided Shiraz Events and its Los Angeles team, led by Shai Tertner, President, and Jason Harder, West Coast Event Director, with the event’s design aesthetic.
The evening was broken down into a pre-concert reception, concert and post-concert dinner. The pre-concert reception featured a white, silver and sage green palette. Guests enjoyed cocktails and hors d’oeuvres from Patina Restaurant Group amid silver, white and metallic designs accented by a profusion of white orchids floating atop geometric mirrored columns and 16-foot-tall bamboo towers. Quotes by Gehry were projected in the hall’s public areas while guests enjoyed themselves in an art deco designed photo booth.
Following a concert by the LA Philharmonic, led by Music Director Gustavo Dudamel and featuring the cellist Yo-Yo Ma, guests entered a tented dinner via lighted entry tunnels. In keeping with the Starry Night theme, both the tunnels and the tent ceiling were covered with custom LED star fabric from Dazian Fabric Environments. Tables set with modern glassware, silver-tipped white porcelain, hammered silver chargers and alternating linen of silver and crinkled white designs were set with three distinct centerpieces of varying heights, each featuring white orchids for continuity. Breakup lighting patterns on the floor inspired by the Milky Way further set the mood as did the gobos and pinspotting provided by Images by Lighting.
Notable attendees included Julie Andrews, Jane Fonda, Frank Gehry, Ben Harper, Cheyenne Jackson and Jane Seymour, among others. The event raised $5 million for Los Angeles Philharmonic and its educational programs, including Youth Orchestra LA, the signature program of Gustavo Dudamel.
