Lighting design had a great impact at the 2013 ISES Austin Awards Gala held Thursday, June 20, 2013 at One World Theatre in Austin, TX. Chapter members of the International Special Events Society in Austin gathered for an exciting night of recognizing the best of the best in the Austin event industry.

The Gatsby-inspired flapping 20s theme of the event filled the air with a sense of lavish celebration that perfectly encompassed the purpose of the night. As guests entered the main event space, they were greeted by pattern projection lighting in an assortment of vibrant colors, beautiful rosa teardrop chandeliers and a custom-made chandelier draped with feathers and crystals that became the focal point of the room.

Throughout the event, guests were entertained by 20s-inspired performances, in addition to the Gala awards presentation. The décor fulfilled the theme as well, using tall candelabras and vases draped with garden flowers and strings of pearls as centerpieces, mismatched vintage chair covers and table linens, and impressive lighting that enhanced the exclusivity of the event.

“As the night progressed, our on-site technician was able to change color washes on the drapery and pinspots using his Ipad to change the ambiance of the room and keep the party going,” says Kristen Morado of Intelligent Lighting Design.

Although lighting is often viewed as a luxury item and is cut from many budgets, it plays a sufficient role in capturing the mood of an event and can be effective for cost-saving. “A large amount of cost is spent on décor, however, in photos without lighting, all of these wonderful assets are completely hidden, ” explains Morado.

Adding a large chandelier to your event space can create a dramatic focal point, such as the one used at the Awards Gala, whereas using perimeter lights can make a simple ballroom look like a million dollars, enhancing the mood of your event and creating lasting memories for attendees.
